Volunteer Opportunities

Participate in our hands-on educational programs by:

  • Assisting with educational mailings, brochures, and posters
  • Translating educational program text into Spanish
  • Organizing educational materials for Scout programs
  • Developing ideas for an adult lecture program

Invest your time in artifact or archive collection maintenance through:

  • Accessioning historic artifacts into the permanent collection
  • Inventorying small collection subsets like the Native American stone tool collection
  • Entering collections data information into collection software system
  • Investigating function and history of mystery objects in the collection
  • Developing oral history programs

Assist researchers in the library by:

  • Researching genealogical, land use, community history questions
  • Accessioning historic maps into permanent collection

Share in the fun at our special events and programs by:

  • Assisting with correspondence and registration before and during events
  • Acquiring donations of raffle items for the fall fundraiser
  • Working at annual special events, greeting visitors and answering questions

Mission Statement:

As the historian of Washington County, Washington County Historical Society preserves and interprets the history of the county, creating knowledge of the past, linking it to an enhanced understanding of the present, and presenting it in diverse educational formats.
