The following are examples of the many collections available at the Washington County Museum.
Washington County in a Nutshell
Our popular Washington County in a Nutshell exhibit has moved into the new exhibit space at our Hillsboro Civic Center Location. We are excited to be able to present an expanded and updated exhibition highlighting the history of Washington County from the early explorers up through the today’s high-tech industry.
1853 Old Log Jail
At our Rock Creek Research Library facility on the PCC Rock Creek Campus, visitors will find the fully restored original 1853 Washington County Log Jail building. Located on a concrete pad directly in front of the building visitors can see the jail even when the research library is closed, increasing the visibility of this historic building that has been under our stewardship since 2002.
Pop Up Exhibits
Do you have an interesting display of antiques, family treasure or oddities? Let us know! We might feature your collection in a future museum “pop up exhibit” where the museum staff features a special display without much warning. Who knows what you might find on your next visit to the museum.
The Rock Creek Research Library offers a wide range of historical collections, materials, and research records. Please check out our Library and historical collections there as well as at our museum in downtown Hillsboro.
Adopt an Object Program
For this new, special program starting at the Museum, we will be highlighting items of particular interest that you, members of the museum community, might be interested in lending a hand in. These will be objects that are in need of specialized conservation. If you would like to help, check out our Adopt an Object program.
