Innov8WCMInnovation is the core concept of this new exhibit at the Washington County Museum. The Silicon Forest in Washington County exhibit showcases the extraordinary infusion of invention and knowledge that made high tech a powerhouse in this region. After exploring some of the key innovations, this exhibit will also challenge visitors to think about Washington County’s future — and your own.

Washington County has been and continues to be a nurturing and supporting incubator providing the creative spark for individual and group invention and innovation. Using examples from a variety of innovators from this area, this exhibit demonstrates that practical know-how, as the catalyst that turns creativity into innovation, has long been a deeply held value in Washington County.

The exhibit features five double-sided graphical spheres containing a good portion of the technology history of Washington County.

In addition to an introduction to the county before the high-tech boom after World War II, the exhibit features the companies who made history beginning in 1944 and continuing to present day.

Aerial photography of the Washington County area throughout the years is complemented by photos of high tech pioneers, plus photos and examples of their products and details of their accomplishments.

ESI-TitlesDiscAs one of the first technology companies in the reqion, Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) was a trailblazer in testing and calibration. Founded in 1944, ESI today delivers world-class systems expertise, with global operations that help customers to make breakthrough technologies possible in the semiconductor, microelectronics and other emerging high tech industries.

Triquint-1In the late 1980s TriQuint, an offshoot of Tektronix, decided to invest in Galium Arsenide versus Silicon for its next generation semiconductor chip. The new Technology Innovations exhibit will feature TriQuint, Tektronix, Planar Systems, ESI and others.
